Welcome To The Show
On September 20, 2016 Keith Lamont Scott, a 43 year old African-America man, was fatally shot by an officer from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Only hours after the shooting, protestors took the streets in a peaceful march that eventually turned violent. The protests continued into the following day, turning into a chaotic night of clashes between demonstrators and police . The former governor of North Carolina, Pat McCory, declared a state of emergency and ordered the North Carolina National Guard’s deployment. The story made national news headlines and was part of an extensive list of incidents in 2016 where African-American men were fatally shot by police officers around the country.
This series is documentation of the second night of protests (September 21) when riot police and protestors clashed in Charlotte's city center. Welcome to the show.
